Stayed in this historic cabin, formerly a forest fire chief's house, at the Union Creek Resort near the Crater Lake NP. (The resort is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.) Here is an excerpt from a framed document in the cabin:
"... Beginning shortly after 1900, Union Creek served as “home base” for many Forest Service employees over the years. This particular house (like most of the other older structures here in the Union Creek Ranger Station compound) was built during the Great Depression.
Members of the Civilian Conservation Corps built this PA’s House during 1935. Designed by Forest Service architects in the "rustic" style, many ranger stations and residences like this one sprang up in the National Forests during the 1930s. Decades later, many of them are gone..."
